Common questions.

What is the deadline to protest my 2026 property taxes?+
The deadline is May 15, 2026, or 30 days after your Notice of Appraised Value is mailed — whichever is later. We recommend signing up as early as possible so we can file your protest and begin building your evidence package well before the deadline.
What if my property value didn't go up this year?+
You can still protest. Every Texas property owner has the legal right to protest their appraised value every year, regardless of whether it increased. Even if your value stayed the same, comparable sales in your area may have dropped — giving us a strong case for a reduction.
How does Valor attend my hearing without me being there?+
Texas law allows protests to be resolved through written evidence and sworn affidavits, without in-person attendance. Our team prepares a comprehensive evidence packet and files it as a sworn affidavit on your behalf — you don't need to attend or even be available on the hearing date.
Do I really pay $0 if you don't reduce my taxes?+
Yes. Our fee is whichever is higher — $75 or 15% of your first-year savings — and only applies if we achieve a reduction. If we don't lower your appraised value, you owe nothing.
What counties do you serve?+
We serve the entire Austin metro area, including Travis County (Austin, Pflugerville, Lakeway), with Williamson County (Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown) and Hays County (San Marcos, Kyle, Buda) launching soon. Our goal is to cover all major Texas counties by 2027. Enter your address to check availability.
Is this different from companies like Ownwell or Texas Protax?+
Yes. Traditional firms typically charge 25–40% of your savings and rely on high-volume processes. Valor takes a thorough, data-driven approach to building your case — charging $75 or 15% of savings, whichever is higher. You keep more of your savings, and the entire process is hands-free for you.
Will protesting affect my homestead exemption?+
No. Filing a protest has no effect on your homestead exemption, homestead cap, or any other exemptions. Protesting is a separate legal process that only challenges the appraised market value — your exemptions remain fully intact.
